Hoang Anh Phan

Hoang Anh Phan is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry, working at the interface of biology and chemistry in Dr. E. James Petersson’s laboratory. Her research focuses on designing stabilized thioamide peptides as imaging and therapeutic agents. Before Penn, Hoang Anh completed her undergraduate study as a Kofi Annan Scholar at Macalester College (St. Paul, Minnesota), with a double major in Biology and Chemistry (with Honors) along with an Added Emphasis in Biochemistry to each major. At Penn, Hoang Anh is a member of the Professional Advancement Committee of Penn Women in Chemistry, a Weingarten Ambassador, and has been a member of GAPSA International Affairs Committee in the past three years! Hoang Anh loves mentoring, teaching chemistry, and talking about science. She also served as a TA trainer for Penn’s Center of Teaching (CTL) in Summer 2021. In her free time, Hoang Anh enjoys taking long walks, reading for pleasure, playing the piano, listening to all different kinds of music, writing short play scripts/poems, watching TV shows, and exploring different ethnic cuisines. As an international student herself, Hoang Anh is passionate about advocating for the international graduate & professional student community at Penn!
