Kristian Taketomo, Vice Chair for Student Life

  • Ph.D Candidate (History), School of Arts and Sciences

  • B.A. Carleton College, 2011

Kristian Taketomo is a fourth year doctoral student in the History Department in the School of Arts and Sciences from Ridgewood, NJ. While at Penn, Kristian has served as the Vice Chair for Advocacy and School Networking for LambdaGrads and the Social Chair for the History Department Graduate Group.

As Vice Chair for Student Life, Kristian serves as an intermediary between GAPSA and Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Penn Recreation. His goals for the 2015-16 school year include collaborating with PennRec to expand membership options, improving student access to medical providers in the PennCare Network, and demystifying health insurance. He also hopes to increase the number of gender-neutral bathrooms and changing spaces across campus and to streamline access to healthcare and prescription medication for graduate and professional students studying or doing research abroad.

Fun Fact: Prior to coming to Penn, Kristian worked in a restaurant in Chicago where he learned how to carry two stemmed glasses in one hand. He only spilled wine on a customer once. It was a red.
