Director of Budget

Xinlan (Emily) Hu

Wharton

Finance Division

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Hu, and I'm a 2nd year PhD student in the Department of Operations, Information, and Decisions at Wharton. My research uses techniques from computer science to understand what makes people work well in teams. Hence, it's unsurprising that I've joined the amazing team here at GAPSA!

One of my passions is bringing people together: whether to dance the night away, speak passionately, or serve their communities. I directed Stanford's 43rd Annual Viennese Ball in 2020, and served on the board of the American Parliamentary Debate Association from 2018-2019. I've also been part of the Wharton Doctoral Council (WDC) since 2021, and served as WDC's representative to GAPSA in 2021-2022.

In my free time, I enjoy making coffee and matcha green tea lattes, playing deceptive board games non-deceptively, long-distance running, listening to audiobooks, calligraphy, and painting.

Tell us one sentence about what brought you to GAPSA

I wanted to make Penn's community better than when I found it, and to build bridges across the different graduate schools.
