Yuwan is a fourth-year PhD student at Penn bioengineering department and her research is focused on systems immunology and immune engineering. She was born and raised in China and came to Philadelphia when she was 16 years old for high school. Following high school, she completed her undergraduate study in chemical engineering at University of California, Los Angeles. She has been an active advocate, especially for international students, since her undergraduate study and joined GAPSA International Student Affairs Committee in 2021-22, supporting international students in their transition and integration to the U.S. academically and professionally. She is currently also the Graduate Vice Chair of International Student Advisory Board (ISAB). She enjoys travelling, outdoor adventures, exploring great restaurants in Philly, and watching films in her free time.
Tell us one sentence about what brought you to GAPSA
Student leaders with brilliant ideas, passion, and compassion gather at GAPSA to care for the entire graduate & professional student body and create something that would have lasting impacts at Penn, and I would like to learn from those student leaders and be part of this outstanding organization.
Give a brief blurb about your position and high-level goals for the year
My goal as Deputy Director of Advocacy this year is to support VPA and all the directors in Advocacy division in any way possible to take some workload off their shoulders so that they could achieve more accomplishments and Advocacy as a whole could increase the impact of advocacy efforts.
